5 Copywriting Sins Killing Your Sales

Copywriting is an art form.

Compelling and persuasive content should motivate readers to take a desired action. For business coaches, it’s an invaluable tool in their arsenal. It’s the number one way of building that strong personal brand that makes people want to work with you and for you.

But if you’re struggling to scale and grab clients, your copy could be falling flat. Do you commit these five deadly copywriting sins that are killing your brand?

1. Lack of clarity

The WORST thing you can do when writing is leave your audience scratching their heads on what they just read. If readers don’t understand how your coaching technique benefits them, they’re not going to buy into your service.

2. Too many clichés:

Overused expressions and buzzwords can KILL your copy before it even gets started. It comes off as insincere and generic, the complete opposite of what you’re aiming for.

3. Selling too hard

When people think all you want is their money, you’re getting curved. Yes, the POINT of copywriting is to persuade and sell. But without adding substance and value to your audience and niche, no one’s going to take you seriously as an authority.

4. Too generic

If you talk to everyone, you’re talking to no one. Copywriting should be tailored to your specific client (and audience!) in mind. What are they struggling with? What do they care about? How does your way of coaching help them?

5. Littered with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes

Sometimes things slip through the cracks, and that’s okay. We’re all guilty of it. Just don’t make a habit of it. Before hitting that send or publish button, make sure your copy is free of errors.

Great, now you know what NOT to do, now what? 🤷🏾‍♀️

Here’s what your copy SHOULD be doing:

1. Attracting potential clients

By writing eye-catching headlines, hook sentences, and paragraphs, coaches should be putting their expertise on full display. Show, don’t tell how your coaching is adding to people's lives and why they should make the investment.

2. Establish authority

A clear and concise message that also shares knowledge and experience will build trust and position you as an expert. So don’t think you have to withhold all your secrets and industry tips. Instead, leave them wanting more.

3. Build your brand

Remember, for many coaches, YOU are the brand. Communicate your personality, voice and values effectively by having one consistent message and brand voice. So get creative and let loose! 💃🏽

4. Give away freebies

By providing valuable resources (such as Ebooks) this can help establish you as a trustworthy figure and build loyalty between your audience. In turn, this will increase engagement and client retention! Plus, who doesn’t love to get a free gift? 👀

5. Increase website traffic

Remember about being concise? This goes to both the actual writing as well as the planning. When writing a piece of content, what do you want your readers to do once they reach the end? You can take this opportunity to refer them to your website or blog.
