The internet has made it convenient for people to promote their businesses for cheap. The downside, though, is because of how easily accessible it is, there’s a lot of noise for beginner entrepreneurs to cut through.

Your audience isn’t going to magically find you. You have to nurture and grow your audience. There’s no shortcut to building traffic to your website. It requires work, effort. So, don’t pay too much attention to promises of increasing your traffic overnight.

If you’re a small business and you don’t have a cornucopia of money at your disposal, there’s a few strategies at your disposal.

Search Engine Optimization

Many websites have regular blogs where they share industry-specific advice, promote a product or service. The reason for this is it builds domain authority and through SEO these sites potentially appear in Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (or SERPs).

Google rewards regular blog posting so make sure you are consistent, and you will notice your traffic organically growing over time.

Content is king

Your content needs to be tantalizing, leaving your readers desiring more. It’s not enough to just produce content. Your content actually needs to be good, filled with substance. Simply put, it needs to be of the best quality.

If writing content isn't your forte, you might want to consider hiring one. A good content writer understands at least the basics of SEO as well as producing engaging content. Online copywriting is a form of art, really.

Leverage social media.

Start with your bio. Think of your bio as the front door of your profile. You have just a moment to tell visitors what you’re about. A good bio should include:

  1. Who you are.

  2. What you do.

  3. A link to your website.

  4. A Call to Action.

When creating social media posts, tag potentially interested users so they can see your content, reply to comments, and interact with the audience you want to build. Use hashtags, though sparingly.

Cross Post on Different social media

When creating blogs, you should be cross posting on various platforms and linking back to your blog. As mentioned in our blog, each social media platform has its own unique audience and the copy you’re producing should reflect that.

Your blogs should be filtered for specific social media (like Instagram) and linked back to your blog. Take tidbits of your blog and repurpose it.

You can also directly cross post on Medium, a publishing platform some have made a killing on. Doing this gets your content in front of the eyes of an audience who may not have otherwise discovered you strictly through your social media or SEO.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is still big in 2022. It’s your best friend. Use email marketing to promote your business, service, product, or sale.

You can also utilize newsletters. Newsletters should be a regular part of your marketing strategy. You can use newsletters filled with tips or promoting a free resource.

Consider Guest Posting

Guest posting allows you not only to build your backlinking but pollinate another website's audience to yours in a similar niche.

Be sure to read thoroughly the guidelines of a website and to be sure if they even allow guest posting.
